12 students injured in clash at Raiganj University
Raiganj (WB): Twelve students were injured when two unions belonging to ruling TMC and Congress allegedly clashed with firearms at the new Raiganj University campus in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district today over admission of new students, police said.
The students, belonging to Trinamool Chhatra Parishad and Chhatra Parishad of the Congress, used firearms during the clash, the police said.
Policemen, who were present on the campus in strength to prevent untoward incidents during the admission process, had to make a lathicharge to separate the rival groups. A live bomb was also recovered from the spot.
Twelve injured students were removed to the Raiganj District Hospital with minor injuries, hospital authorities said.
A strong police force was guarding the hospital as top police officials kept a vigil on the campus which recently witnessed similar clashes over admission of students.
