16 proposals received for declaring various castes as SCs
New Delhi: States have sent 16 proposals in the last one year for inclusion of various castes and communities in the list of Scheduled Castes to the Centre but eight of these have been returned for want of clarification, government told the Lok Sabha today.
Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla said since 2014, 16 proposals have been received from various state governments.
Out of these, 8 proposals have been returned to the states concerned for further justification of their demands in view of issues flagged by Registrar General of India and for providing ethnographic information, he added.
The minister informed that out of the remaining eight proposals, five have been referred to the Registrar General of India and three to National Commission of Scheduled Castes for their comments are per laid down procedure.
