2.5 lakh tourists visit Sindhudurg Fort this year
Tourist places in Sindhudurg district are gaining popularity among tourists. Around 2, 49, 622 tourists visited the fort of Sindhudurg during year 2013-14
But the number of tourists has declined by around 20 thousand during 1st April 2013 – 31st March 2014 than the year 2012-2013. Lok Sabha elections could have caused this down turn.
Year 2012 had seen almost 2, 69, 631 visitors; the number felled by 20,009 as this year 2, 49, 622 tourists visited the Fort. Tourism year is generally counted like financial year starting from 1st April till 31st March.
The best season to visit Sindhudurg Fort lasts for nine months. One cannot visit the fort during rainy months June, July and August. Hence, April, May and later September to March remains most ideal months to visit Sindhudurg Fort.

This indicates that the month of December witnessed highest turnout of tourists. Though some decrease in number of visitors to Fort has been seen, number of tourists in Sindhudurg district is constantly on higher side.
Archeological department’s sheer ignorance has caused severe damage to the Fort. Hence, tourists prefer to watch it from jetty and move on to other tourist attractions and water sports.
Most visitors from west Maharashtra, Mumbai
Visitors to Fort Sindhudurg includes most from places in west Maharashtra like Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Mumbai. Some tourists from Gujarat and Kerala also visit this place during Diwali vacations, informed Jetty Superintendent Pradip Agashe.
71,577 visitors in April, May
Year 2013-14 might have seen low turnout of visitors but in the year 2014 around 71,577 tourists visited the Fort. Last year 62,456 tourists had visited this place during these two months. This year almost 9,121 more tourists were seen. The month of May only recorded 52,342 visitors though the visits dropped during 1st to 16th May due to LS polls results.
Six more boats this year to reach Sindhudurg Fort
Already 52 boats are in service to take tourists at Sindhudurg Fort; six more boats will be added during current year. These additional boats are under permission procedure and anticipated to join the service by Diwali season.
As per government’s policies transport towards the Fort closes down on 25th May but due to delay in monsoon this year transport is still operational. Currently, around 1.5 thousand tourists visit the fort daily.
