300 people arrested by the police for alleged gambling
Thane: Thane police commissionerate officials arrested around 300 people in a massive raid last night for alleged gambling, police sources said here today.
Acting on a tip-off, police officials raided premises of the Sangam Charitable Trust and arrested gamblers from Gujarat and other states as well, police sources said.
Allegedly, gambling was on in airconditioned rooms at the six storied Krishna Sudhama building which was being used by the Sangam Charitable Trust.
Among those arrested include employees of the club, as well as its three partners, namely Rajdip Singh Bista, Prakash Hari Rane and Afzal Kadar Memon, a police officer said.
Those arrested are from well-to-do families hailing from Surat, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Thane. Some of them include businessmen, while others are from South India, the police said, adding that that cash worth Rs 4.97 lakh was seized during the raid.
The Naupada police has registered an offence under the Prevention of Gambling Act against those arrested.
All of them were produced in court today and released on bail.
