4.36 crore urban population from Maha to be covered under NUHM
An estimated population of 4.36 crore in 95 towns and cities with population over 50,000 each will be covered under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) scheme
Launching the scheme, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today said the mission will be one of the biggest successes like the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).
“This will improve the status of urban health. I assure that the government will provide sufficient funds for this. 26 corporations, 64 nagar parishads will be the beneficiaries,” he added.
As per the NUHM program implementation plan (PIP), Maharashtra gets Rs 162.58 crore, including Rs 35.64 crore for Mumbai.
The Centre will bear 75 per cent of the expenditure while the state government share will be 25 per cent.
The scheme includes modernization of 336 primary health care centres, construction of 157 new primary health care centres, upgrading of 45 hospitals and construction of seven new hospitals.
