4 gangmen killed after being run over by train
Mumbai : Four gangmen were today killed when they were run over by a local train between suburban Kurla and Vidyavihar stations.
The mishap occurred between 6.15 AM to 6.30 AM when the four laborers, all railway contractual employees, came under the wheels of a Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST)-bound suburban train, a Government Railway Police official said.
As per perliminary information, the accident occurred when the four contract labourers of railway were walking along the tracks between Kurla and Vidyavihar railway stations. They were run over by the Karjat-CST local train, Deputy Commissioner of Railway Police, Central Railway, Rupali Ambure said.
The deceased were identified as Shravan Bahu (18), Kashinath (19), Gokul (18) and Nana (27).
The four victims were rushed to nearby Rajawadi hospital where they were declared dead, a senior railway official said.
Meanwhile, a senior railway official has said it is unlikely that an inquiry will be conducted into the incident, terming it as a case of “trespassing”.
“According to information received from control room, the labourers were returning from Sandhurst Road station after doing overnight job. It seems they may not have noticed the moving train as it was dark,” he said.
Earlier on November 3, 2013, four railway gangmen, carrying out maintenance work on the tracks, were killed after being hit by a speeding Kolhapur-bound long distance train between Thakurli and Kalyan railway stations in the neighbouring Thane district.
