‘88% yr-end weekend holiday bookings made 45 days in advance’
Mumbai : Most Indians love to holiday during the year-end, wherein about 88 per cent of the travelers booked their Christmas and New Year weekends almost 30-45 days in advance this year.
“A whopping 88 per cent of travelers booked their Christmas and New Year weekends almost 30-45 days in advance this year-end. By doing this, they saved between Rs 2,300–5,300,” according to travel booking site Cleartrip’s data, collated around booking trends on the last two long weekends of Christmas and New Year of 2015.
The study found that only 12 per cent travelers made their bookings with 30 days to go.
Among the domestic destinations, Goa, Jaipur, Munnar, Pondicherry, Shimla and Manali are the top leisure attractions for both the weekends.
Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok and Colombo are the top international holiday destinations for the two weekends for Indian travelers, the study revealed.
About 65 per cent respondents booked holidays for both weekends through desktops, while 35 per cent did their bookings through mobile handsets.
“By just taking the Thursdays off in the last two weeks of December, people have availed both the 4-day long weekends. We have seen a 25 per cent growth in travel bookings during the last two long weekends of 2015, compared to the same period last year,” Cleartrip Chief Revenue Officer Amit Taneja said.
With Christmas and New Year both falling on Friday, most people are choosing to step away from conventional parties in metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, and are exploring leisure holiday destinations like Goa, Jaipur, Munnar, Pondicherry, Shimla and Manali, he said.
“Indian travelers have smartened up to the benefits of advance holiday planning. Almost 88 per cent of wanderlusts have already planned both these long weekends at least 30-40 days in advance,” he added.
