Advocate gets 5-yr RI in farmer death case

Nashik: An advocate was sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment by a local court after holding him guilty for the death of a farmer in Devla taluka here.

Advocate Arun Ramchandra Shirore was also slapped with a fine of Rs 25,000 by District and Sessions Court Judge A D Karanjkar yesterday.

According to the prosecution, Shirore had purchased agriculture land from one Shyamkant Vishnu Dhamne in 2010.

On May 7, 2010, a quarrel erupted between Dhamne and Shirore over sharing of well water with Dhamne’s uncle Khanderao. In the meele, Shirore pushed Shyamkant following which he lost his balance and fell into the well.

He died on the spot due to serious head injuries, the court was told.

On a complaint from the Dhamne family, Devla Police registered an offence against Shirore.

The court examined six witnesses during the trial including Shyamkant’s brother Bharat Dhamne before pronouncing the verdict.
