Almost 731 roads under digging in Mumbai, traffic decelerates
Almost 731 roads in Mumbai are under digging process for projects like Mono Rail, Metro Rail, flyovers and road expansions, which has adversely affected the traffic of this city
The western and eastern suburbs are affected the most from these development works. Especially the area of Kherwadi Junction is suffering the most due to flyover work in progress between Santacruz and Bandra. Around 60 per cent lanes are closed for this work and traffic is diverted to the service road which is in worst condition causing heavy traffic jams.
Approximately four to five thousand vehicles pass from Kherwadi Junction per hour. Hence, the Traffic Police had wrote to MMRDA to repair service road before starting work but there was no action taken from them, informed an officer.
“Maximum numbers of roads from these 731 roads are under digging for Mono and Metro Rail project. More traffic police are delegated duties to control the traffic. Traffic is diverted to alternate roads. Special campaigns are undertaken for Parking to regulate the traffic, informed Pratap Dighavkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Division (Suburbs).
Meanwhile traffic in the areas near Curry Road railway station, Wadala, Shewri, Antop Hill and Ghatkopar is also affected.
