ARCOT joins hands with TMC for festive season waste disposal
Thane: As a part of its social responsibility, ARCOT (the association of all 22 Rotary Clubs of Thane) has joined hands with the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) and come forward for collection as well as disposal of floral waste during Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
This was announced here today at a press conference by the ARCOT president Ravindra Patil.
Patil told reporters that until recently, clubs in the city used to perform this task in isolation, but from this year onwards, all clubs have decided to do it jointly.
He said that more than 250 Rotarians from all clubs led by their presidents would be present at each of the ten immersion spots to help collect floral waste.
Patil said that ARCOT has also taken responsibility to pay wages to women labourers who would be stationed at the centres for collection floral waste.
Around 10,000 ecofriendly bags to be used by citizens for the disposal of floral waste would also be distributed throughout the city.
TMC expects to collect around 350 tonne of floral waste and later convert it into organic fertiliser, he said.
