Bookie held for betting on IPL match
Rajnandgaon: A bookie was arrested for allegedly accepting bets on yesterday’s IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals and Rs 10,000 in cash was recovered from him.
Based on specific inputs, Deepak Chand Rana (30) was nabbed from his rented house under Dongargarh police station limits last evening, Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police P Sundarraj said.
Betting records of around Rs 2 lakh, Rs 10,000 in cash, four mobiles phones, a television set and other related material were recovered from the spot, the SP said.
On getting information about betting on IPL T-20 match between KKR and RR on Saturday at a rented house in ward number-19, a police team, along with a team of Crime Branch, was mobilised towards the place, he said.
During the raid at his home, the accused was found to be accepting bets on each run and ball of the match, following which he was apprehended, the SP said.
A case has been registered in this connection, he said, adding, further probe was on.
Police teams are keeping a close watch on the activities of the bookies during the franchise-based cricket event underway in different cities of the country, he added.
