The Borivali-BKC Corporate Shivneri Bus Service had to be shut down by MSRTC

Shivneri busMumbai: Inaugurated at the hands of the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, the Borivali-BKC Corporate Shivneri Bus Service had to be shut down by Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).  The service was unaffordable from the very first day due to poor response of commuters. Mere 8-10 passengers used to travel by this bus. Hence, MSRTC took a decision to shut down this service.

The Thane-Borivali Volvo service which was running in leisure time also had to be shut due to Borivali-BKC service shut down. The concept of Corporate bus service was presented by Vikas Kharge, Vice President of ST and Managing Director when he was appointed to the position in September last year. But the service was making losses since beginning. Various worker unions too were demanding to close down this service.

Some officers in MSRTC are unhappy that the service had to be closed. As per them, ‘point-to-point’ corporate bus services are needed as corporate employees are often reluctant to travel by bus, autos and local trains. This service was required by them but it was not marketed well resulting in it’s close down, they says.

  1. The service was to shut down from the very first month itself. I was a regular traveler on the bus and had insisted on monthly passes for the same. There are services by other bus operators on the same route with monthly passes which is running almost 3 full buses with at least 40-45 passengers on each bus. While Shivneri was very comfortable at the same time it was costly as compared to other buses. Had a pass been introduced it would have got consistent passenger and people dont look for alternatives on a daily basis.
