Chelsea ease to victory in friendly
Kuala Lumpur: Chelsea defeated a Malaysia All Stars team 4-1 on Sunday for its second straight pre-season win under new manager Jose Mourinho. Teenage midfielder Bertrand Traore scored in the 5th minute after converting a cross by Kevin De Bruyne, who later scored with a volley in the 28th minute at Malaysia’s Shah Alam Stadium.
Victor Moses scored the Blues’ fourth goal in the 88th minute before Malaysian substitute Mohammad Fadhli Shas grabbed a consolation for the hosts. De Bruyne was carried off during the first half in Kuala Lumpur after hurting his knee as he scored the second goal of the night.
De Bruyne limped back out of the tunnel before the game ended and watched from a seat beside the pitch. Asked about the injury to the young Belgian, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said: “When he was on the floor and asking for a change everyone on the bench thought the worst. The first assessment by the doctor is that it’s not the ligaments for sure and if it’s something in the meniscus then it is a very small injury. We believe it’s not an important injury.
“Hopefully not because the kid is a fantastic player and showing to you match after match and showing to me in training that he’s going to be a key man on the pitch,” Mourinho was quoted saying by Daily Mail.
The 22-year-old has been one of the most positive aspects, impressing Mourinho with his incredible fitness levels and performing well in the games.
