Child labourer rescued in Thane
Thane: A seven-year-girl from Muzaffarpur in Bihar was allegedly sold to a family in Thane’s Ulhasnagar township where she was made to work as a servant and physically tortured, police said today.
The girl was allegedly bought for Rs 5,000 about six months back by Ulhasnagar’s camp no. 5 resident Kiran Kapoor with a promise that she would take care of her and educate the child.
However, after the girl reached Ulhasnagar, she was made to do the domestic work and was beaten up on several occasions, assistant police inspector M K Chavan, Hill Line police station, said quoting a complaint filed in this regard last evening.
The neighbours of Kapoors, after seeing the minor girl working in the house, apparently reported the matter to local Shiv Sena leaders.
Subsequently, local Sena leader Rajendra Chowdhari along with other party workers and police personnel rushed to Kapoor’s residence and rescued the girl yesterday.
The minor bore injury marks, as per the complaint.
They later approached the Hill Line police station and lodged a complaint in this connection.
Chavan said they were looking into the matter and would register an offence and take proper action accordingly.
