New Delhi: A sluggish four-laning work between Indapur and Zarap on Mumbai-Goa highway must be commenced immediately, demanded the Member of Parliament for Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency, Dr Nilesh Rane, in Lok Sabha.
While raising question about NH 17 in Lok Sabha, Dr Rane narrated the situation of this highway to honorable Speaker. Raigadh, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts are of utmost importance for Konkan from tourism perspective. Hence, traffic on this highway is increasing rapidly.
The highway has witnessed almost 6,200 accidents in last six years, killing 1500 and severely injuring 2500 tourists. This situation demands immediate action of highway’s four-laning and expansion, he demanded.
The expansion work especially on the 84 km belt between Panvel and Indapur is lower in pace. It did not catch the speed even after National HIghway Authority of India (NHAI) published tenders of the road, Rane informed. The work have even commenced on the strap of 454 km between Indapur and Zarap. Three years has already passed from completing all the procedures of four-laning but the pace of work and development is not acceptable, Dr Rane indicated.
