CST-Goregaon local trains on tracks from June
Currently, local trains run from CST to Andheri on Harbour line which will now be extended till Goregaon
Mumbai: BEST has resolved the obstacle in land acquisition process for expansion of Andheri-Goregaon Harbour line by sanctioning the proposal of Railway to handover their land. This will facilitate to start CST to Goregaon local train service from June benefitting lakhs of commuters who travel between Andheri and Kandivali.
The expansion of Harbour line was announced two years ago but a part of land at Jogeshwari was required to be handed over to Railways from BEST for this. The decision to hand over this land was taken in BEST’s meeting on Thursday. The work of expansion is in last stage and the service is expected to start from June, informed Prabhat Ranjan of Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation.
Currently, local trains run from CST to Andheri on Harbour line which will now be extended till Goregaon.
Total 585 local trains run on Harbour line transporting more than 7.5 lakh commuters every day. These includes 90 local trains to Bandra and Andheri, 46 and 44 trains respectively and only one train runs for Borivali.
At present, commuters from Goregaon, Kandivali, Malad, Jogeshwari, Andheri and Borivali have to get down at Churchgate and travel to CST or change from Western railway to Central at Dadar. This trouble will be solved now with the CST-Goregaon local train.
