Cummins commissions engine plant in Pune


Cummins inaugurated its seventh plant in the country, in Pune

Cummins-IndiaMumbai: Cummins, a top manufacturer of engines, generator sets and related technologies and components, today inaugurated its seventh plant in the country and it is likely to boost the company’s exports.

The plant at Special Economic Zone at Phaltan near Pune will roll out high horsepower engines, the company said.

The facility is the largest high horsepower manufacturing site in the world and will build QSK 23 tier I and II engines, which can produce 3,000 units per year initially, it said.

The QSK 23 series of engines, which were so far being imported from Komatsu of Japan, will consolidates Cummins’ manufacturing capabilities for global markets, it said.

The plant will soon manufacture QSK 23 tier IV and QSK 60 engines that will comply with the 2015 emission norms.

Inaugurating the plant, Cummins Group India Managing Director Anant J Talaulicar said, “The new facility positions us well in the export markets as economies begin to recover. We are optimistic about our long-term growth and continuing to invest in manufacturing, technology and service capacities to serve our customers well.”

Once fully operational, the plant will employ close to 350 people, he added.
