Developmental Journalism will bring growth to the society: Mhatre
Mentioning Mahesh Mhatre’s contribution in the field of journalism, Parab called him as “Editor of the poor and the downtrodden masses”
Malvan: Mentioning the need of the Newspaper in society, Mahesh Mhatre, the Editor, daily Prahaar said, “Newspaper is an effective medium to reflect people’s aspirations and ambitions through it. Thus the developmental journalism will bring a positive change to the society. Journalism should bring more maturity to the journalists and should be growth oriented.”
He was speaking as a chairperson in a program organized by Sindhudurg District Marathi Journalists Association with Malvan Taluka Journalists Committee in association with Sangram Prabhugaonkar, member, Zilla Parishad at Masure.
The program was organized in a hall of English Medium School at Masure Bharatgad. Mhatre said, “In the past six decades to our independence, the rural systems in India are transforming speedily. The impacts of urbanization are seen around. Thus it is the responsibility of the journalists to join a different school of journalism than the traditional ones,” he said.
Sachin Parab, the Editor, daily Goadoot, Gajanan Naik, President, District Journalists’ Association, Deputy President Nandkishor Mahajan, Chandrakant Samant, Ashok Karmbalekar, Ganesh Jethe, Secretary of Journalists’ Association, daily Prahaar’s resident editor Santosh Vayangankar, Umesh Toraskar, Journalists’ Committee head Vidyadhar Kenvadekar, Anna Kesarkar, Sangram Prabhugaonkar, Chhotu Thakur, Sarpanch Gayatri Thakur and other dignitaries were present during the program.
Meanwhile commemorating the Journalists’ day, special journalism awards were given to honor the journalists of the district. Sanjay Rane, photojournalist of daily Prahaar was felicitated for his excellence in the field. Life-Time achievement award was given to Raja Khandalekar, Editor, Janyug weekly. As excellence in Journalism award was given to Rajesh Mondkar, Ratndeep Gawas was honored with Young Journalist award in the hands of the dignitaries.
Mhatre further said that in the time of social transformations, the journalists should fight the second battle of independence through their journalism. Thus he expected that the journalists should be intellectually enriched to take the poor and the middle class ahead for healthy society.
Sachin Parab, Editor, Goadoot said, “The journalists are giving a direction to the society in the crucial time of Globalization and it is our responsibility to solve the poor’s problems.”
He further said that journalists have given an important contribution in nation building and the journalists were the part of the same society.
Thus he said that the society should support the journalists in their work for society. Parab also voiced that the journalists should cope-up with the changes in the field of journalism.

Mentioning Mahesh Mhatre’s contribution in the field of journalism, Parab called him as “Editor of the poor and the downtrodden masses”. He said, “Mhatre is the first journalist who founded the first Marathi news portal ‘Pratibimb’. In a way, he is the founder of Online Marathi Journalism. His journalism was ahead of the time. Mahesh Mhatre had represented the country at international conferences. Parab said that Mhatre’s journey is praiseworthy considering his start from the small village like Wada. Thus Parab asked the journalists get inspired from Mahesh Mhatre.
