Devices to prevent lightning deaths being considered
Mumbai: Maharashtra government is planning to install mobile lightning arrestors in order to reduce the number of deaths caused due to lightning, during the monsoon.
“We are considering if mobile lightening arrestors can be installed,” Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters after a chairing a review meeting on monsoon preparedness.
He said the Commissioner of Brihammumbai Municipal Corporation, defence, police and National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) officials participated in the meeting.
Last year, about 450 people had died after being struck with lightening, he said.
“We have installed 17 new sensors which will intimate the location of lightening two hours before. We also took stock of the action plan prepared to counter monsoon emergencies,” he said.
