Diamond company employee held for evading octroi
A courier was caught by railway police carrying diamonds and gold jewellery worth Rs 1.02 crore, evading octroi
Kaushal Tiwari, employed with a private diamond trading company located at Opera House in South Mumbai, was held after he returned from Surat and alighted at Mumbai Central railway station. He had bought the valuables from Surat in order to deliver them to a private firm in Hyderabad, they said.
“We intercepted him after we received inputs that he had evaded Octroi. We also found some documents which need to be verified. He has been unable to give reasonable answers to several questions due to which we informed the Income Tax department,” a Mumbai Central Government Railway Police official said.
Later, Tiwari and the valuables were handed over to the Income Tax department for verification and further action, he informed.
