Double Decker train to bring 4 times more revenue to railway
Recently tested Double Decker train is likely to run on Mumbai-Madgaon route from upcoming Ganesh Festival season
Ratnagiri: Recently tested Double Decker train is likely to run on Mumbai-Madgaon route from upcoming Ganesh Festival season. Decision regarding its commencement of operations will be finalized during railway budget that is just nearly a month away.
This train will not only fulfill commuters’ dream and offer great relief to them but it will also help to boost railway’s revenues four times more than currently running Janshatabdi Express on same route.
The mock test of this Double Decker train was held a fortnight ago when Mumbai-Madgaon route was included in nation’s most preferred routes. The test was conducted in three stages: Mumbai-Roha, Roha-Ratnagiri and Ratnagiri-Madgaon.
The train attempted its first test by traveling on Konkan Railway route through tunnels, bridges and valleys. Minor issues were found on two-three places during this test but they are reconcilable within a week. So, for now Double Decker is all set to travel to Konkan though it still has to receive green signal from Railway Safety Commissioner.
New government may announce this train during railway budget session to be conducted in next month. According to the sources, Delhi-Lucknow and Mumbai-Madgaon Double Decker train may start at the same time.
Meanwhile, travelling by this proposed completely air conditioned double decker chair car train will cost around four times more than Janshatabdi Express to commuters.
