Eid celebrated with enthusiasm, fervor in Maharashtra
Mumbai: Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan, was celebrated today with enthusiasm and traditional fervor in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.
Muslim brethren began the day by offering special prayers. Dressed in finest clothes, they greeted each other and along with friends and relatives later feasted on delicacies like ‘sheer khurma’ (vermicelli pudding).
Governor Vidyasagar Rao and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis extended greetings to the people on the occasion.
In Nashik, thousands of Muslims in traditional attires gathered at ‘Idgah Maidan’ this morning and offered prayers.
Mass prayers were also organised in mosques across Nashik and the nearby powerloom town of Malegaon.
Nashik Mayor Ashok Murtadak, Deputy Mayor Gurumitsingh Bagga, Police Commissioner S Jagannathan, civic chief Praveen Gedam and corporators, among others, greeted Muslims on the festive occasion.
The festival was celebrated with gaiety and full fervour in other parts of the state.
