Eight killed, nine hurt in road accident


Nashik: Eight persons were today killed and nine others injured in when the van they were travelling in got trapped between a tempo and truck on the Manmad-Malegaon highway here, police said.

The mishap took place at Kundalgaon-shivar in Choundhi-ghat last night when the van tried to overtake the truck and was trapped between the vehicle and a tempo coming from opposite direction, they said.

The victims hailing from Manmad were returning home after a pilgrimage to Ajmer Dargah in Rajasthan.

The deceased were identified as Atik Ramajan Tamboli (35), Naaz Atik tamboli (14), Saina nissar Tamboli (8), Hasina Rashid Tamboli (60), Ariff Mohamed Farukh (40), Abdul Kuttus Mohamed Shami (50), Prashant Suresh Khairnar (van driver), and Vishal Ganesh Shetye (36), police said.

The injured were admitted to a government hospital in Malegaon.
