“After we get the reply from Twitter officials (as to who uploaded the photo and the location from where it was uploaded) our investigation would proceed,” said Dhananjay Kulkarni, spokesperson of Mumbai Police.

A 2012 photograph of Fadnavis, his wife and daughter on a yacht was recently circulated on social media platforms, including the Twitter, suggesting Fadnavis was enjoying with the family while on an official tour of US last week.

A complaint was lodged by Sanjay Pandey, a BJP worker, alleging the image and text was an attempt to slander the chief minister.

A senior police officer told that since the case was politically sensitive, the investigators were proceeding cautiously.
