Fare increase on NMMT buses by Rs 2 and Rs 5
The decision came without any discussion in Transport Committee’s meeting unanimously on Monday
Navi Mumbai: Now traveling by Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) bus will cost you more than the regular fare. The fare on the ordinary buses is increased with Rs 2 for ordinary buses and Rs 5 is hiked for Air conditioned buses.
The decision was taken in recent Transport Committee’s meeting. Ghanashyam Mangale, Manager, NMMT informed that the decision would come into action after the span of two months with other sanctions.
The decision came ahead of the increase in the fuel prices along with the inflation wage to the employees and price rise of loose parts and ticket printing costs.
NMMT mission comprises of 145 general buses that run on diesel along with 2 mini buses and 30 Volvo AC buses. Besides that, 161 CNG fueled buses serve under NMMT.
NMMT mission serves at the area comes under Municipal Corporation along with Khopoli, Secretariat, Borivali, Kalyan, etc. The committee had increased bus fare last year when diesel prices were at Rs 44.29 per liter and for CNG Rs 33.41 per kg.
With the central government’s decision of decontrolling the oil prices, NMMT project has to pay Rs 61.21 per liter and CNG prices are increased by Rs 6.03.
Thus, the authorities have claimed it right to compensate with the increase in fuel price rise. The proposal has been sent to general body of Municipal Corporation.
