Five held with arms, ammunition in Thane


Thane: Five persons of a gang called ‘Tipper’ were arrested and arms and ammunition seized from them as they were planning to execute a loot in Kalwa area of Thane, police said today.

The five persons, who hailed and operated the gang from Nashik, were nabbed yesterday at Retibandar Circle at Kalwa by a team of Thane Crime Branch and seized three pistols, eight live cartridges, mobile handsets, a car and other weapons from their possession, a press release issued by Nashik police said.

Based on a tip-off that the gang was coming to Retibandar Circle to meet some of their accomplices to loot an office of a builder in Kalwa, a trap was laid last evening and the members were arrested.

The five accused were identified as – Ganesh Wagh, 25, Anil Bender, 33, Yogesh Shevre, 33, Nikhil Pagare, 21 and Mukesh Rajput, 24.

The gang faces charges of murder, dacoities, attempt to murder and extortion against them in crimes committed in different parts of the district.

All the five members are likely to be handed over to Nashik police today, it said.
