Five killed as van rams into tree in Chhattisgarh


Korba: Five persons were killed when their pick-up van rammed into a tree at a village in Jashpur district today, police said.

The mishap occurred in the wee hours today near Peta village of the district when the victims were proceeding towards Jashpur from Ambikapur, Bagicha police station house officer (SHO) G D Sonwani said.

As per the preliminary investigation, when the vehicle reached near Peta village, the driver lost control over steering and dashed into a tree alongside the road, killing five persons on the spot and critically injuring one, he said.

Soon after the incident, a police team rushed to the spot along with medical aid.

The deceased were identified as Rajan (42), Suman Gupta (35), Arjun Gupta (28), Manbahal (34) and driver Borgan Mansuri (25).

A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is underway, the SHO added.
