Four policemen suspended for beating up fruit-seller

Nashik: A police sub-inspector and three police constables from Malegaon here have been suspended for allegedly roughing up a fruit-seller and extorting Rs 6,000 from him, police said today.

The policemen– SI Subhash Patil, constables –Samadhan Pawar, Ravindra Bachhav and Harish Bachhav– were suspended yesterday after the incident, Sunil Kadasane, Additional Superintendent of Police said today.

The action against the accused was initiated after victim Sheikh Akbar Shakeel (20) filed a complaint against them alleging that the cops beat him up when he reached the police station in connection with a NC lodged against him.

The cops also extorted Rs 6,000 from the fruit-seller, Kadasane added.
