Four sentenced for life in murder case
Darbhanga (Bihar): A local court convicted four persons today for killing a village head during an election over 25 years ago and awarded them life imprisonment.
Darbhanga Additional District and Sessions Judge Surendra Prasad Pandey also imposed Rs 5,000 fine on each of the four convicts identified as Meghnath Singh, Jogendra Singh, Rajendra Singh and Chandra Mohan Lal Das.
Amarnath Jha, the village head of Kaifwath panchayat in Darbhanga district was killed on February 27, 1990 when a bomb was thrown at a polling booth in a government school.
Altogether 26 people, including former MLA Prabhakar Chaudhary, were made named accused in the case. However, barring the four convicts, others were freed as the charges were not proved beyond doubt.
