The future of Navi Mumbai airport is expected to be decided in a meeting at CIDCO Bhavan on 26th October
Navi Mumbai: The future of Navi Mumbai airport is expected to be decided in a meeting at CIDCO Bhavan on 26th October. The decision over giving compensation in rehabilitation packages along with 22.5 per cent developed land to the land givers will be taken during this meeting in the presence of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. Otherwise, this project has to be shifted elsewhere from Navi Mumbai, the sources in CIDCO informed.
The cost of this project, delayed over 15 years now, has gone from 4000 crore to 14000 crore. CIDCO has acquired 1800 hector (4500 acre) land for the project till date. All the required permissions from Central government are received too but local farmers have denied giving 474 hector land for the project. They are demanding monetary compensation along with the offer of 22.5 per cent. But the government has rejected this proposal as the amount of compensation is large.
The meeting of Managing Director of CIDCO, Sanajy Bhatia with project affected people has raised the expectations to have positive decision. CIDCO has prepared a special package consisting of 22.5 per cent developed land and rehabilitation even when the rule tells to give 12.5 per cent land. The final decision on this will be taken on 26th October in a meeting. This will decide over the location or transfer of NM airport.
