Green Signal for minor minerals’ excavation
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan ordered to declare a ordinance for no need of the certificate from the Environment department for the excavation
Kankavli: The ban on the excavations of red and black rock has been completely lifted. From here after there would no need of environment department’s certificate for the excavation. The decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting recently.
The Industry Minister Narayan Rane had formed the issue the most important. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan ordered to declare a ordinance for no need of the certificate from the Environment department for the excavation.
The ordinance has been posted on the government website and the minor mineral permits would be gets sanctioned by the committee headed by the district collector with the recommendation from the sub divisional officer.
District congress chief Satish Sawant welcomed the government decision and he also thanked Narayan Rane and Dr. Nilesh Rane for taking efforts to get a permanent solution on the issue of excavation.
As per the Maharashtra Minor Minerals excavation rule, 2013, now a committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the district collector to issue the permits for minor mineral excavation.
On December 12, Rane, the district in-charge minister of Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri had a discussion over the issue of complicated terms on environment certificate in the state cabinet meeting. Then the cabinet decided to drop the environment department’s certificate for permanent basis.
Under the Minor Minerals’ excavation rule 2013, Chapter 4, the authorized officers of the district level committee is assigned to give temporary minor minerals’ excavation permits and have also mentioned the no need of environment department’s clearance for it.
But there was no specific mention of the villages came under Eco Sensitive Zone.
The ordinance has also said that the committee should issue the permits immediately after a keen check of proper following of the rules and conditions made for the minor minerals’ excavation mines permits.
