Hot water splashed on boy by anganwadi workers
Two anganwadi workers were arrested in Keonjhar district on the charge of throwing hot water on a two-and-a-half-year old boy leading to severe burns
Keonjhar (Odisha): Two anganwadi workers were arrested in Keonjhar district on the charge of throwing hot water on a two-and-a-half-year old boy leading to severe burns, police said today.
The incident occurred in an anganwadi centre at Khendara on Friday sparking protest by irate villagers who sought stringent action against the two, police said.
The boy named Parsuram, son of daily wage earners Padma and Rinu Munda, was admitted to the ICU of the district headquarters hospital here in a serious condition, the police said.
Though the villagers and Parasuram’s parents said that water was thrown intentionally, the two anganwadi workers identified as Subhashree Giri and Soudamini Nayak refuted the allegation and claimed it was accidental.
“The boy came all of a suden when they were throwing hot water outside after boiling eggs (which are served to students during mid-day-meal)”, the two women said.
The condition of the boy was stated to be stable although his pace of recovery was being affected by the non-functioning of the air-conditioning system in the ICU due to damaged window panes.
Jhumpura SDPO Subas Mund was inquiring into the incident.
