Akole: Forest department in assistance with Police arrested 330 tribal farmers at Pimplegaon Khand in Akole taluka of Nagar district. The tribal farmers had encroached forest land under the guidance of Shetkari Lokshasak Sanghatana.
These farmers had intruded the forest land since last 5 days. They undertook the activities like cutting grass and stared ploughing the land. Forest officers immediately arrived at the place after getting the information. But farmers turned aggressive and started saying either give us a land or kill us.
They started saying that we neither have work nor lands. How would we landless people survive? We would cultivate forest land without harming a single tree but let us do this. They started announcing loud with the demand to get the land. Finally, when farmers were not ready to back out, forest officers arrested them on Sunday afternoon with the help of Police. They were taken to Akole Police Station and charged under forest act.
These farmers had some female farmers as well. They were shouting in the protest even in Police station. Some arguments also happened between Police and farmers. The atmosphere was tensed for some time. Theses farmers were taken to the police station in two police vans and three buses of corporation.
