India today pledged to provide Rs 26.68 million to Nepal for renovation of a prominent monastery and construction of quarters for Rinpoche and Lamas under Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Program

Nepal-IndiaKathmandu: India today pledged to provide Rs 26.68 million to Nepal for renovation of a prominent monastery and construction of quarters for Rinpoche and Lamas under Nepal-India Economic Cooperation Program.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was today signed between the Indian Embassy here, District Development Committee, Manang and Tilicho Khangsar Sewa Samiti for the grant assistance.

Tashop (Tare) Gompa Monastery is a historic structure having great socio-cultural relevance in the life of the people of the Manang District.

The structure of the Gompa is dilapidated and needs renovation. This was the first Small Development Project being undertaken with Indian assistance in Manang District situated in North-West Nepal, according to a statement issued by the Embassy here.

The inmates at the Gompa are also facing problems with regard to their accommodation and pursuit of religious education.

The renovation of the Gompa and construction of quarters being carried under Indian assistance would considerably help upgrading these facilities, the statement said.
