If found guilty, Khobragade would be sent to jail for minimum five years
Khobragade, who had casued ‘materially false and fraudulent documents’ to be produced to the authorities in her bid to get an Indian national employed as a babysitter and housekeeper at her residence in Manhattan.
In reply, the Indian embassy here said that Deputy Consul General of India in New York, Devyani Khobragade, aged 39, was “taken into custody by law enforcement department when she was dropping her daughter to school on December 12, 2013.
Khobragade was later released on the same day evening on bail. The experts in US law said that if she found guilty, she would be sent to jail for minimum five years. Before working in United States, Devyani had worked at Indian embassies at various countries.
