Indira Aawas Yojana provides shelter to 453 beneficiaries

Kankavali: Under Indira Aawas Yojana (IAY), 465 beneficiaries were approved houses during year 2013-14 of which 453 houses are getting ready for possession. Construction work of rest 12 houses could not be commenced for technical reasons.
The central and state government had launched IAY with the motive to provide authorized residences to financially weak and below poverty line (BPL) people. Lakhs of people who cannot afford decent living gets benefited with this scheme every year.
Currently construction work of 453 houses is undergoing but 12 more approved houses are not being constructed due to technical reasons. Total Rs 4.40 crore funds were approved for this construction of which the amount of Rs 14, 99, 815 is already spent.
Under IAY, beneficiaries are approved houses at the rate of Rs one lakh which includes Rs 52,500 from the Central government, Rs 17,500 as equal contribution and Rs 25,000 as additional funds from the State government and Rs 5000 from beneficiary’s pocket.
Funds, including Central government’s Rs 2, 30, 89,000; State government’s equal contribution Rs 81, 20, 000 plus additional funds of Rs 1,16,00,000 totaling Rs 4,40,34,000, are paid to the beneficiaries.
Gram Panchayats of each village prepares waiting list of beneficiaries and they are provided benefits as per the numbers. Cluster development officer selects beneficiaries from applicants but funds are requested from the Project Director of District rural development system of Sindhudurg.
