Interview of starcast “Drishyam”
Was not getting exciting offers to do intense roles, says Ajay
Mumbai: Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn says he wanted to do intense roles but was waiting for the right kind of offer.
“I did intense roles in “Zakhm”, “Deewangi”, “Company” and it was liked by people. I wanted to do such intense roles but I was not getting any exciting offers for those kind of roles.
“The film… The role has to be extraordinary or else then things don’t work,” Ajay told reporters here at a promotional event of “Drishyam”.
The 46-year-old actor had a great time while shooting for “Drishyam”, a remake of a successful Malayalam film of the same name.
In the film, Ajay plays a family man who is pitted against Tabu.
“A father can do anything for his family. First day, I had bit difficultly as I had to look like a simple man,” the “Singham” protagonist said.
Talking about action in “Drishyam”, Ajay said, “In this film there is intelligent action and not just like the usual stuff. It was exciting for me to do it.”
On comparisons with the original film, Ajay said, “Everyone makes a film in their own different way. Our film is different… The performances are different. It is set in a small village. The film is a tried…and tested (in other languages).”
“Drishyam”, a murder mystery set in Goa, also staring Shriya Saran is set to hit the screens on July 31.
I could have done any film to work with Ajay: Tabu
The “Haider” actress said she could have done any film with him as she considers Ajay the trump card.
“When I came to know that Ajay will be acting and producing this film, I just said yes… He is a trump card.
There is an advantage that I am getting to work with him. I could have done any film with him. I had the opportunity to reconnect with Ajay,” Tabu said.
“Drishyam”, a murder mystery set in Goa, is a remake of a successful Malayalam film of the same name.
The 43-year-old actress has revealed she had seen the original Malayalam film two years back.
“I saw the film earlier because my close friends had made it. I had no idea the film will be remade here (in Hindi) and I will get to play such a strong, powerful character. It is one of the best roles that I am doing. I am fortunate that I am getting good scripts,” she added.
Tabu is also all praise for her director Nishikant Kamat.
“It’s a nice, strong and powerful story. He (Nishikant) is an easy going person. It was a great experience. The film has Vishalji’s (Vishal Bharadwaj) music… It was like reconnecting with him after Haider,” Tabu said.
In “Drishyam” remake, Tabu plays the role of a stern cop.
“The police in this film is not against or for the system. It is a story of a simple family and what happens in their lives after a particular incident. Rajat Kapoor and I are family and how we get affected due to that situation,” she said.
“This role had tough parts as well. I was heartbroken when I had to beat up Shriya (Ajay’s wife in the film) and children but when you are in the character you cannot allow emotions to rule you,” Tabu said.
“Drishyam” is releasing on July 31.
Playing a mother on-screen was easy: Shriya
“Drishyam” is an upcoming thriller drama film directed by Nishikant Kamat where Shriya is paired opposite Ajay Devgn.
The 32-year-old actress is playing a mother of two girls in the movie set in a small coastal village.
“It was not tough to play the role of a mother. It is an interesting role. I feel anyone can connect with the film, the characters and the situation,” Shriya told reporters here at the trailer launch of “Drishyam”.
“I enjoyed working on the film. I am a big fan of Ajay. I have admired him. He is a giving actor and it is easy working with him. I like Tabu a lot… She is adorable,” she said.
The film is a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name. It is directed by Nishikant Kamath and is scheduled for release on July 31.
