ITIs go under complete change!
New changes in the traditional syllabus would benefit the students; part time courses would also give better employment
Mumbai: The modern technology is changing very fast and various kinds of industries and businesses are using this technology. When numerous employment opportunities are available around but the skilled human resource is lacking.
On this backdrop, Directorate of Vocational Education and training of the state is introducing the changes in its traditional syllabuses which would increase numerous job opportunities to the youth.
At present, there are 417 government and 364 private vocation training institutes also known as Industrial Training institute (ITI) under the directorate in the state.
The institutes provide the training at 81 types of courses under Craft Training Scheme and provide 14 types of small and long duration courses in the vocation education.
Till now the courses like Tool Die maker, Fixer etc. and other four trades were three year courses. From this year, they have been designed to two year courses.
Earlier the exam for all trades was taken at the end of the course. But now the drastic changes have been done.
Talking with Prahaar, Yogesh Patil, Deputy Director, Vocational Education and Training, said, “The vocation education and training department earlier used to take exams for four subjects at all the it is. In which the first paper was related to Trade subject, second was of Social skills, third was of drawing and fourth was based upon overall training. But now this structure has been changed and instead of four papers, now only two papers would be conducted which will be of objective type. This would relieve the pressure from the students,” he said.
Presentation based education: It has been decided that the annual course would be conducted semester basis. It would provide not only presentation based, but also deal with knowledge related to other fields so as the students should be relieved from the pressure. A special care would be taken so as the students could learn two to three courses in the annual year. The training is based upon presentation. Thus it is benefitting the students.
Educational qualification condition lowered: Earlier the basic educational qualification for the vocational courses in Filter, Health Safety, Operator Advance, Machine Tools was minimum 12th standard at all the state vocational education and training institutes. Now it has been lowered to 10th standard. Thus many 10th passed candidates can take benefit of this opportunity.
More stress on skills based courses: A special inclusion of skills based syllabus has been carried out in all the courses. If one candidate is taking education of a fitter’s or turner’s course, he is also getting trained for other courses. Thus a special model has been designed. A thought has been given for the creation of skilled human resource for six model and industries in one year.
