Kalyan-Dombivli road work slowdowns
There is no clue about completion of ongoing road works leaving Corporators and public furious
Dombivli: The slow paced work of roads in Kalyan-Dombivli is troubling people to walk and drive on roads due to traffic jams. All party Corporators raised question in a review meeting held on Monday about completing the work faster.
The Municipal Commissioner of Kalyan, Shankar Bhise called a meeting at Savitribai Phule Auditorium on the ground on complaints from Corporators about roads in Dombivli . The Corporators and officers attended this meeting. Under the State government’s ‘Golden Jubilee Urban Renewal Mega Mission’, the road work worth Rs 374 crore is undergoing in areas of the Municipal Corporation.
First phase was started with three roads in Kalyan West and one in East side. But the pace is so down that only 40 to 45 per cent work is completed till now. The shops, houses interrupting road construction and court cases have become major obstacles in the completion of work. But these problems could have been avoided if the Corporation would have removed the encroachment and rehabilitate the affected people before starting the road work, agitated Corporators.
People are holding Corporators responsible for daily traffic jams due to incomplete work. In a second phase, the work of 10 roads in Dombivli and nine roads in Kalyan started but only 10 per cent of this work is completed yet. Civilians complain of seeing cracks in many of these roads. There are many more affected roads between Tilak Road and Patharli inDombivli; nothing is yet decided about these roads. Simultaneously, the work of installing telephone lines, electricity channels, underground sewerage campaign and water supply pipelines is going on. Hence, there is no clue about completion of these road works leaving Corporators and public furious.
Bhise says, “The work is slowed down due to some problems but administration is taking efforts to complete it as early as possible.”
