KDMT has decided to expand the territory of their services till Mumbai
Kalyan: Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Transport (KDMT) has decided to expand the territory of their services till Mumbai. The approval was given to KDMT in the meeting of transport committee held on Tuesday. So the residents of Kalyan-Dombivli, dependents on local trains, will now be able to travel till Mumbai by bus as well to avoid rush in the railway.
Around 80 per cent of Kalyan-Dombivli population are servants and need to travel to Mumbai every day. Railway is the prime mode of transport for them hence, their complete schedule breaks when the railways get disturbed. There was demand from civilians to start this bus service since long. To meet this demand, bus service is approved to be on 51 routes connecting Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and important villages and places within.
Approval to purchase 185 new buses
KDMT is approved to buy 185 buses under JNNURM. This will cost around Rs 70.10 crore and Rs 20 crore for basic amenities making it total Rs 90 crore. The Central Government will contribute Rs 45.5 crore, state government Rs 18.2 crore and municipality Rs 27.3 crore. Municipal Corporation has to arrange its share through loan as their financial condition is already weak. Transport committee has given approval to decide the loan policy. KDMT has the income of 1.55 crore per month and expenses of Rs 2 crore. They presently have Term Deposits of Rs 5.56 crore with them. According to the revised rates of buses they have to arrange the funds of Rs 34.39 crore.
Bus service from Kalyan to Mantralaya
This bus service will be available from Kalyan–Dombivli to Thane, Mulund, Dadar, Andheri, Borivli and Mantralaya. Also, these 185 buses will be running on 51 routes connecting Mahape, Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Vashi, Badlapur, Bhiwandi, Titwala and surrounding villages, informed Rajesh Kadam, Chairman of KDMT. Presently, places for only four bus depots are available with KDMT and only Ganesh Ghaat Depot is utilized. Apart from this, the reserved lands owned by KDMT opposite Saadhan Hotel in Kalyan, Vitthalwadi Bus Depot and Khambaalpada in Dombivli are being converted into depots. The Ganesh Ghaat bus depot will be renovated after selling off all the scraped buses and spare parts dumped at the place. This move is also approved for making appropriate place for new buses.
