Konkan needs different criteria for irrigation

Kudal: The government should imply different criteria for Konkan when it comes to irrigation projects. Farmers must believe that no land is infertile. The district has seen development in appropriate manner through tourism, said water expert Dr Madhavrao Chitale.
He was speaking at a conference held on topic ‘Irrigation system in Konkan’. The event was initiated and directed by Vasishta Sinchan Sahayog, Chiplun and Maharashtra Sinchan Sahayog, Aurangabad on Wednesday.
He said, our agricultural development is sluggish. Our technology develops at 11 per cent and service industry enhances at 20 per cent annually. But we don’t work much on hill inclines whereas Germany has produced around 80 per cent Palm on inclines of mountains. Suitable Irrigation criteria for other regions may not be suitable for Konkan as well. Hence, the government should change their criteria for irrigation in Konkan.
He also directed audience about irrigation and distribution from dam and said that dam building should undergo drastic reforms. He also guided about yielding products from agriculture all 12 months.
