Sindhudurg secures the first position while Raigad stands on the last
Ratnagiri: Where the state government is facing a clean whitwash in planting the target of 100 crore samplings, Konkan division leads the scheme in the state with completion of 80% of plantation in Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Raigad and Thane districts of Konkan.
Within the division, Sindhudurg is at the top while Ratnagiri secured third position.

The state government had decided in July 2012 to plant 100 crore saplings in next five years. But the scheme had to keep in the drawers as the unavailability of saplings.
The authorities had estimated to plant 19 crore 86 lakh saplings across the state in 2013. In Konkan division, Sindhudurg district had the plantation target of 45 lakh saplings. Around 46 lakh 17 thousand pits had been dug. Out of which the district saw plantation of 39 lakh 8 thousand saplings’ plantation.
After Sindhudurg, Thane district stood second with 87% of sapling plantation of the given target and planted 89 lakh 25 thousand plants. The district had the target of 1 crore three lakh plantations.
Ratnagiri district stood third and planted 60 lakh plant saplings. The district was given the target of 70 lakh saplings plantation.
When other districts in the division are performing much better, Raigad district stands at the last. Only 64% of the work is completed. The district was given the target of 85 lakh sapling plantations. Out of which 54 lakh 67 thousand saplings have been planted yet so far. But 35% of the work is still pending when this year’s monsoon is about to finish its stay.
