Liquor worth lakhs of rupees seized on New Year’s night
Ratnagiri/Lanja: The illegally transported liquor from Goa towards Konkan worth lakhs of rupees was sized at different places on the New Year’s night. Where alcohol worth Rs 4 lakh was detained at Pali, Railway Police held Goa made liquor worth Rs 16 lakh in railway. At Lanja, the officers of State Excise Department chased a car carrying large illegal stock and arrested them along with the car near Math village on Mumbai-Goa highway at around 4.30 am.
The officers and employees of State Excise Department were patrolling the area under guidance of S V Shrikar, Superintendent and Ravikiran Kolhe, Deputy Superintendent of Excise Department as the possibilities of illegal transport was anticipated on the background of year end parties. The Inspector In-Charge Suraj Daberao and Sub-Inspector Jitendra Pawar of Excise Department noticed speeding Cruser car and asked it to stop but it escaped without stopping. The officers then chased the car and caught it near Math Jakadevi temple on Mumbai-Goa highway.
32 Goa made liquor bottles of five reputed companies worth Rs 29,270 were seized from the car, the car is worth Rs 6 lakh. The driver of car Shivaji Manak Sakpal is arrested by Excise Department under illegal transport of Goa made liquor.
Railway seized illegal liquor worth Rs 16 lakh
Special squads of Konkan Railway police were checking trains for some days near year end by the orders of senior departments as without permit transport of alcohol is most probable in this season. An illegal liquor worth Rs 15,89,225 was seized during these checking operations.
