Mumbai: Maharashtra minorities department is likely to table a proposal in the state Cabinet meeting tomorrow seeking approval for imparting regular education in madrasas (Islamic seminaries) along with religious course.
“We will table a proposal seeking approval for academic education in madrasas, so that students from the minority community can also learn other languages like Hindi, Marathi and English,” a source said.
He said the department would also seek appointment of teachers in madrasas to teach these languages.
“A separate fund of Rs two lakh will be allocated for the madrasas imparting academic education,” according to the source.
