Bhubaneshwar: Odisha Toursim and Culture Minister Maheshwar Mohanty who was shot by assailants in Puri, his constituency is ‘out of danger’ after an operation where the bullet lodged in his ribs removed on Saturday
“He is in a stable condition now”, hospital sources said.
The 59-year-old minister was in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the private hospital after the surgery by a team of four doctors.
Mohanty was shot near his house in Puri by attackers who were following him on two-wheeler on Friday night and had bullet injuries on his left arm and back, police said.
He was rushed to a hospital in Puri and subsequently shifted to Bhubaneswar.
The investigation in this case was in progress and some people were being interrogated, said the Superintendent of police, Puri.
Several leaders including Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik visited the hospital and wished him to recover soon.
Patnaik has asked the police to take steps to apprehend the attackers at the earliest.
