Malvan all set to welcome summer guests from Mumbai
ST is running extra buses from Kankavali, Sawantwadi, Malvan and Devgadh. MSRTC has provided online booking facility as well
Malvan: Mumbaikars wait year long to visit their natives in Konkan during summer vacations. Every year the practice remains same but excitement never fades. This year, many have planned to leave for Konkan immediately after voting in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections to be held in Mumbai on April 24. Extra trains and State Transport buses are running to curb pressure on transport during this period.
Passengers demand more trains as railway is running only three extra trains currently. They are also demanding to give halt to the express trains here. Meanwhile, ST is running extra buses from Kankavali, Sawantwadi, Malvan and Devgadh. MSRTC has provided online booking facility as well.
Generally 16 trains run from Mumbai towards Sindhudurg-Ratnagiri, railway has added three more to it including CST-Karmali, Dadar-Sawantwadi and Ahmedabad-Mangalore. In current scenario these 16 plus three trains are highly insufficient. Considering cargo trains and express trains for Madgaon, Kerala, Ernakulum etc, it is difficult to run more trains on Konkan railway route, hence passengers are demanding for halts to existing express trains on stations on the same route in Konkan.
ST buses are most crowded for Kankavali and Sawantwadi. Therefore, MSRTC has arranged more buses from Borivali, Pune, Parel, Kalyan, Belgaon and Ratnagiri. Group booking service is also available for passengers from Mumbai.
MSRTC is not only set for vacation season but wedding season as well which requires special buses. 25 buses will depart for Konkan from Mumbai every day. The numbers will be increased as per increase in demand. More than 40 passengers from single village have enjoyed this benefit. This service is advantageous for group booking by various native specific organizations in Mumbai.
