More than 40 crore Aadhaar numbers by UIDAI till date
UIDAI has issued more than 40.29 crore Aadhaar numbers till date, government targeting 60 crore enrollments by 2014
New Delhi: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued more than 40.29 crore Aadhaar numbers till date and the government is sure about achieving the target 60 crore enrollments by 2014, as informed by the government.
“UIDAI has reiterated that the target of 60 crore Aadhaar enrolments will be achieved by 2014. More than 40 crore 29 lakh Aadhaar numbers have been issued till date and the process is continuing at a healthy pace,” a release by Planning Commission said. It also informed that only in the month of July, 2013, about two crore Aadhaar numbers have been generated.
The authority is in planning to set up permanent enrolment centers in various states for residents who have been either left out in earlier enrolment drives or wish to update their Aadhaar data.
“Nearly seven months after the launch of Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT), the government has allocated about Rs 250 crore on various welfare programs and made around 32 lakh payments through Aadhaar Payment Bridge,” according to the statement.
Aadhaar Enabled Service Delivery is linked to various government schemes such as scholarship, pension scheme, Dhanalaxmi, Janani Suraksha Yojana, payment of social security benefits such as old-age payments, distribution of LPG subsidy etc.
It is also informed that, the DBT is now being implemented in 28 schemes across 121 districts and soon a review meeting will be done to take stock of its progress and to expand it in other schemes and the remaining districts of the country.
