Mumbai City FC gearing up in Dubai for ISL Season 2
Mumbai: Mumbai City FC have commenced their preparations for the second season of the Indian Super League in Dubai where they have been going through a rigorous training regime since reaching UAE on August 25.
The Mumbai ISL franchise are scheduled to play against Baniyas FC on September 4, another local Dubai side on September 6 and Emirates Club on September 9 before returning home, said a media release.
The team would also be travelling to Sharjah and Abu Dhabi as part of their pre-season tour.
Sunil Chhetri, Subrata Paul and a few others would be joining the squad in Dubai on September 9, post India’s World Cup qualifier match against Iran, scheduled on the 8th of this month, in Bangalore.
The team is set to return from the tour on September 12.
Nicolas Anelka, Mumbai City FC’s marquee player-cum-manager, is supported by Assistant Coach, Óscar Bruzón.
Their approach towards their players will be one that enables familiarity among players so that they gel well and explore their strengths and areas of improvement.
The duo believes this will help the team develop their game and help them prepare before taking on FC Pune City in the inaugural match of ISL Season 2 in an away game at Balewadi on October 5, the release said.
“This is an excellent start to our ISL season 2 preparations. The facilities are great here in Dubai and the team seems to be getting along and gelling well with each other in just the first week of pre-season,” said Anelka.
“It’s the first time that some of the international boys are meeting the entire team and the entire experience has been great for everyone. Our target is for the entire team to be in the best possible shape by the time we reach Mumbai and we all are working very hard towards it,” he added. The season begins on October 3 in Chennai.
