Mumbai still unsafe for the women!
HarassMap, the website launced by Akshara Foundation also has their mobile application for women safety
The revelations are stark and it is found that most of the women are in fear for their safety. Many a times only discussions are carried out on the issue of safety for women where the stringent action is the need of the hour.
In result the harassment of women are increasing by each day. In city like Mumbai, many women have to travel during the night from their work where many a times they have to face the heinous people.
But in shocking update, the women not only feel unsafe during the night but the fear haunts them during the day hours too! More than 105 women registered their pleas on their safety concerns. They mentioned that public places like railway stations, bus stops, roads, housing societies and colleges are also the centers of women harassment.
Not only that the women have registered 53 most unsafe places in Mumbai. The maximum harassment experiences were noted as men looking at women maliciously; clicking women’s photograph secretly, immoral behavior, etc.
71 women registered their experiences particularly based upon these types of harassment experiences and 25 revealed that they were followed by men.
Meanwhile, the website started by Akshara Foundation is helping the women. Women can register their bad experiences at particular places as unsafe places. The website has also provided contact numbers of all the police stations in Mumbai. The foundation has also made the mobile application of Harassmap available for women’s safety.
Talking with Prahaar, Nandita Gandhi, Associate Director Akshara Foundation, said, “We are here for women’s safety and women can register their personal experiences here. We had also met the police before starting the website and police also praised the initiative. The police have assured to take a notice of the unsafe places mentioned on the site,” she said.
