Mumbai varsity’s initiative for spread of Marathi
In an initiative to increase the usage of Marathi language in its office culture, the Mumbai University is all set to spread the language use
Recently the distance and liberal education department of the university had organized a one day seminar dedicated to the topic ‘Usage of Marathi language in university administration’. Long discussions, presentations and planning were carried out so as to increase the usage of Marathi language in the university administrative circle.
The seminar was divided into two sessions. Many noted scholars shared their opinions, ideas on ‘Marathi language and university administrative circle’ in the first session. The second session was dedicated to ‘Simple usage of Marathi at office work’ along with a discussion on use of modern technology for Marathi language. All the participants agreed upon this that spoken language is different than literary language and more different than administrative language. Thus many discussed that dedicated efforts were needed to cultivate the independent thoughts and efforts to seed the language.
Geeta Bhagvat, Former Associate Director, Directorate, Language department, voiced that the university administration should make special arrangement for the effective usage of Marathi language in its policies.
Chetana Pradhan, Associate Director, Directorate, Language department said that while using the Marathi language in office work, one should understand the peculiarities in its usage while implementing the policies.
Dr. Nareshchandra, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Dinesh Kale, Convener, Marathi Language, Mumbai University and many officials were present for the seminar.
